The first time EDP is launched, a format file must be selected before a data file can be loaded.
Open a Format File in Professional EDP
1.Open EDP by clicking the EDD (EDP) button (located in the Import group on the Home tab) within Professional.
2.Click on the Format button (located in the Open group on the Home tab).
Note: Default Format Locations – The default location for system formats is ~\Program Files
\EarthSoft\EQuIS\System. The default location for custom formats is ~\Program Files\EarthSoft\EQuIS\Formats.
3.Select the format file and click Open.
Once a Format File has been selected and successfully opened, the path to the directory where the Format File was found is displayed in the lower-left corner of the EDP window.
•In previous versions of EDP, the selected format section text was always black, even if it was populated, contained error rows, or did not contain error rows. Now the text will reflect the same text color as when it is not selected. *Note: by default, populated sections with errors usually have red text and sections without errors usually have green text, but the colors can be changed in the Options menu.
•Download .zip Format Files – A feature was added to Enterprise EDP that will allow you to download the format files. Format names for .zip formats will show up as a link in EDD Info, and the whole format zip file can be downloaded.
Open a Format File in EDP Standalone
1. Open EDP Standalone with the EDP.exe file in your Professional install folder.
2. Click on the Format button (located in the Open group on the Home tab).
3. Select the format file and click Open.
4. Select the appropriate reference value file if prompted.
The Reference Value File in EDP Standalone
Every time a format file is opened, EDP will look in that folder for an associated *.rvf file. If a file is present, it will be opened. If there is no *.rvf file, you will be prompted to browse to the appropriate *.rvf file.
For example, if you load the 4-file format, ~\\EarthSoft\EQuIS\System\EFWEDD.XSD, EDP will check the ~\EarthSoft\EQuIS\System folder for an EFWEDD.rvf file. If one is found, it will be loaded; if not, then you will be prompted to open another file of your choice.
To identify which reference value files have been loaded, select the Reference Values tab. The path to the reference value file is displayed in the lower-left corner.
Tip: If you have various client specific *.rvf files, you may want to consider putting the RVF files in a directory other than the format file directory, so that you will be prompted to browse to the specific *.rvf file each time you open the format.
