Configuring Standalone EDP to Use a Network License

Standalone EDP can use network licenses. The application can connect to a current EQuIS Professional database with network licenses or a standalone database created in environments with only EDP. In both instances, the EDP.exe.config file will need to be updated to use network licenses and directed to point to the specific server and database where the network licenses are stored.

For information regarding setting up an external license database for EDP Standalone, please read Creating an External License Database for EDP Standalone.

Configure Application to use Network Licenses

1.Open EDP.exe.config (usually located in C:\Program Files\EarthSoft\EQuIS) in a text editor (e.g. Notepad).

2.Change the useNetworkLicenses property to True:

<add key="useNetworkLicenses" value="True" />

3.Add a connection string in EDP.exe.config that points to the database containing the network licenses. The connection string must be valid for any user that will be using the network licenses. For example, you would add the following text to your EDP.exe.config file within "configuration", but outside of "appSettings" where [connectionString] is a valid connection string to your database:

SQL Server:

<add name="databaseConnection" connectionString="[connectionString]" providerName="EarthSoft.Common.Data.

SqlConnection" /></connectionStrings>

Oracle Server:

<add name="databaseConnection" connectionString="[connectionString]" providerName="EarthSoft.Common.Data.

OracleConnection" /></connectionStrings>

Example connection strings include those shown below.

SQL Server with Windows Authentication

Data Source=dbserver;Integrated Security=SSPI;Database=licensedb;

SQL Server with SQL Authentication

Data Source=dbserver;User ID=someusername;Password=somepassword;Database=licensedb;

Oracle with Windows Authentication

Data Source=tnsname;Integrated Security=yes;

Oracle with SQL Authentication

Data Source=tnsname;User ID=someusername;Password=somepassword;

Note: SQL Server authentication is either:

1. Windows Windows Authentication (Windows User, typically when the database is on the local machine) or

2. SQL Authentication (User Name and Password, typically when the database is on an external machine).

Once this information is entered in EDP.exe.config, save the file, open EDP Standalone, and load the EDD format. The connection string stored in EDP.exe.config will automatically be encrypted the first time it is used.
